Search the Library Catalog   Subject headings consist of words, groups of words, or acronyms that are used to describe the subject of a work and are utilized in searching the catalog and other online databases to enhance retrieval.

Use the Library of Congress Subject Headings (set of red volumes at the Reference Desk) to find the valid subject heading for your topic of interest and  related subject headings to search.

Most books on the various social issues are classified in the H's in the Library of Congress Classification System.  You may wish to browse the shelves in this area.  Look in both the Reference Collection and the General Collection.

Search the Library Databases fror Articles

To find periodical and newspaper articles, select one of the databases listed under Online Databases from the GateWay Community College Library Home Page.  Many of the articles are available full text and may be printed, e-mailed or saved to disk. Off-campus access is available to many of the databases.

Please keep in mind that the Library does not own every journal listed in these sources.  To find out if the library does own a specific title perform a Title search in the Library Catalog or look up the magazine or journal title in GateWay's Periodical List.  For those periodicals that we do not carry, Interlibrary Loan is available for requesting such resources.
