Information Literacy
Maximize Classroom Instruction With Library Support
Research Skills
GWC Library offers course-related information literacy instruction to teach students how to access, gather and evaluate information.
Students Will:
- Learn how to define a topic for research and translate the topic into specific areas for more efficient access
- Select appropriate sources of information
- Use information sources efficiently, critically and with proper documentation
How It Works?
The librarian, in collaboration with the instructor, selects those sessions that best meets the needs of the class.
Through this initial contact, faculty learn about resources available and the librarian learns the goals and objectives of the class. Please share your library related assignments and course syllabus. The librarian instructs students on library resources available for an upcoming paper or project. Students can be provided with an exercise to put their skills into practice using their own research project.
Group Study
Class period taken in the library to use library resources with the instructor present, and librarians available as "guides on the side."
Getting on the Library Activities Calendar
Please schedule sessions and group study at least one week in advance. This allows for staff coverage to meet information access needs, and time to prepare instructional materials geared to your class.
